The Norman Bird Sanctuary is a wildlife refuge featuring more than 300 acres of woods, coastland and breathtaking ocean views from formations such as the 70-foot high Hanging Rock. Over seven miles of hiking paths wind through the sanctuary, from which visitors might view owls, northern cardinals and many other winged animals. In addition, the sanctuary offers programs for families and adults, such as wildflower walks, nature photography classes and bird watching walks. It lies about five miles east of downtown Newport, just above Sachuest Bay.
